Casey Wilson Isn’t Afraid to Get Real—and Spicy

Actor, former Saturday Night Live star, author and podcast host Casey Wilson kept it refreshingly real throughout our chat, from being honest about not meditating to confessing her love of multitasking makeup products. “That’s the kind of products I respect. Where it’s this, and it’s this. Your lipstick is also a tampon,” says Wilson. She also pledged her assistance to those seeking advice in the bedroom. “As a Spicy Ambassador, you know I have to take my role very seriously,” she says.

Through the chat, Wilson kept the conversation spicy, often surprising me with her responses, which is why it comes as no surprise that she has teamed up with Hellman’s as the brand’s Spicy Ambassador to celebrate the launch of the new Spicy Mayonnaise Dressing. The brand is encouraging everyone to get spicy with a contest where you can win a spicy staycation. Before you enter the contest, get some inspiration from the Spicy Ambassador herself.

The messaging behind this partnership is so fun. I know the motto is “Get Spicy.” So what are some ways that you get spicy?

“Okay, look, obviously, I get spicy in the bedroom…by taking a nap. Every day. We were laughing because I was sharing tips to get spicy and one of them is honestly, when you’re tired, take a quick 20-minute nap so that you can get back up and get back out there. I have kids. I don’t know what’s wrong with me that I need a 20-minute nap almost every day, but I feel like a new human being, and I get a lot of energy.

Also, I’ve got to tell you, and I know the pandemic is still very much with us, but I’m going out a ton. I’m just getting out there. I’m having my drinks and going out with my girlfriends. I’m going to gay clubs and dancing. I’m doing things I didn’t do in my 20s, and I’m just having a blast. My friends are like, ‘you have to live,’ and so that’s been a huge one. I’m just trying to say ‘yes’ to different things. If people ask me to do something, I’m like I would have killed to do this a year and a half ago.

Then yes, you know, having moments with your lover. I’m happy to, you know, side coach anyone through any sexual things they want to try. Just DM me or text me, and I’ll help with any of that as well.”

We’ve talked to some of the Real Housewives about how open they’ve been about getting cosmetic work done. Obviously you have a passion for the Real Housewives. What are your thoughts about being open about the surgery one has gotten done?

“I couldn’t love it more, but I also am such a fan of people that don’t want to talk about it. I just think anyone who wants to do whatever they want to do, God bless. Live your life and do what you want to do, whatever makes you feel better about yourself, whatever that is. I’m just such a fan of people feeling good. I had a friend who got some work then, and she was saying that something about doing that made her feel better than 10 years of therapy. I was like, great. Life is hard.”

What are some of your favorite makeup hacks you’ve learned?

“Well, my girlfriend Juliette Levy is in the beauty PR world, and she has given me a ton of makeup hacks. She’s got me super into Kosas. Their 10-Second Eye Eyeshadow ($15) swipe it, smudge it, and it literally looks like you’ve done so much.

She got me super into ILIA Multi-Stick ($34). At my age, I’m starting up from my ear and coming down. Hot tips all around. Maybe these are obvious things, but my makeup artist Kathleen Karridene is always trying to get me to put foundation on my lids before I do my eyeshadow, so it stays on all night. I just love beauty stuff so much. I can’t get enough.”

What does self-care look like for you?

“I’m really into skin care. I think it’s actually just kind of fun, and there’s something grounding about it for me to have a routine. Sunscreen is a huge one for me. I’ve always had issues like with moles, and also, as an actress, my face is my fortune. I like to eat well, but I also like to have fun. I’m all about a margarita with your friends, and that’s very much self-care for me. I’m just not going to sit here and pretend it’s me sitting and meditating for an hour.”

If you could only use one skin-care product for the rest of your life, what would it be?

“All the EltaMD products, but I love their sunscreen, the moisturizing sunscreen. It’s so nice. It feels great. I got an amazing tip from Christie Kidd, my dermatologist, who told me I’ve got to be doing the ear lobes with everything, with your retinol with everything. Hit up your ear lobes with every single layer that you do because you get older, your face looks great, but then we’ve got an issue with the ear lobes perhaps.”

How is working on a podcast similar and different to filming for TV? Do you like one better?

“Podcasting is so different from anything, in that, at least in our business, in film and TV, you get so many notes, so many people are involved, but a podcast is just a free for all. It’s just the Wild West, you say whatever, and you’re the only one that suffers the consequences.

My girlfriend and I host a podcast about the Real Housewives, “Bitch Sesh,” it’s a comedy podcast, so we just kind of say whatever. We’ve had to make a couple of retractions, an apology here or there, but for the most part, what’s fun about it is it’s very fleeting. It comes out, and people listen to it. It’s kind of disposable in a really fun way that allows you to make commentary on something right in the moment, and then it’s like never to be heard from again. I don’t want a legacy. I just want something I said to make someone laugh at a stoplight.”

Do you have a favorite recipe using Hellman’s Spicy Mayo?

“Recipe is really a bit of a stretch. I am more of a person that is going to use a different sauce for asparagus. That’s my first number one. So recipe is loose, you’re going to make your asparagus, and then you’re simply going to put your spicy mayo in a jar or simply right on the plate. I started using it on corn on the cob too, which is a hot tip.”
