I Tried Divine Skin Rose 001 Essence, Pat McGrath Labs’s First-Ever Skin-Care Product — Review

Campbell got her hands on the product about a year ago, she tells me via a Zoom call. She’s always looking for hydration and luminosity with her skin-care products, so incorporating this essence into her everyday skin-care routine was easy.

“[With the product,] your skin is not dry, itchy, [or] flaking,” she raves. “It feels like it’s getting nourished and revitalized.” She assures me that I would love the Divine Skin Rose 001 Essence for its ability to give skin a glow from within. (Side note: She also complimented my purple braids and “good skin,” so basically, I’ve been given Campbell’s stamp of approval.)

Hydration is one of my biggest skin concerns, so I love using silky essences or toners to hydrate my skin. Thus, I had a good feeling I would enjoy trying this product, and a quick glance at the list of ingredients confirmed my prediction (more on that in a minute).

To put it to the test, I applied it after cleansing my face. This product is a bi-phase essence, which means it separates into one milky and one pink section that, once shaken and combined, become a light pink hue reminiscent of strawberry milk. Before unscrewing the pink cap, I shook the bottle well and then dispensed a few droplets into my hands. I wiped the product all over my face and neck, making sure that every inch of my skin was covered with the solution.

Immediately, I felt a light film of hydration coat my skin. I even noticed a few droplets that needed to be patted in further on some areas of my face. It felt a bit thicker than other essences that I’ve used, which I didn’t mind at all. After admiring my hydrated, dewy face, I proceeded with the rest of my skin-care routine, which includes a hyaluronic acid serum, moisturizer, and sunscreen
