Former RHONY star Kelly Bensimon has a new gig: selling real estate. Splitting her time between New York City and East Hampton—you can catch her on Discovery Plus’s new Selling the Hamptons—the 53-year-old model and businesswoman lives a lavish life on the go. From her long signature waves to her long signature legs—they’re insured for $5 million—here’s what the reality star and mother of two is keeping on her vanity these days and the in-office treatments she swears by for “aging with grace.”
What beauty trends are you loving right now?
“My favorite trend is skin serums and oils they are incredibly hydrating and keep wrinkles at bay. Youth is seen in hydration. Makeup artists have been using oils on my skin for over a decade. I always trust the professionals with giving me the best advice. I also have psoriasis and have to be very mindful of what I put on my skin, so I’ve always been a fan of clean beauty products.”
What does your skin-care routine look like?
“I live in New York and going to bed with clean skin is a must. My daughter Teddy taught me to use Bioderma makeup remover with a reusable cotton pad derived from bamboo. Then I apply oil, eye cream and a lip balm—I love C.O. Bigelow Rose Salve Tube—and I’m ready for bed. In the morning, washing my face with warm water and applying ice really keeps my skin and pores tight—it’s very Mommie Dearest–inspired and it really works.”
Do you use any at-home tools or get any in-office treatments to keep your skin in check?
“I love getting Morpheus8 with Dr. Monasebian, and I have been getting Botox with Dr. Kassimir for years. Maintenance is important. I want to enjoy aging with grace. I think injections and treatments are such a value-add to beautiful and youthful skin, but if you don’t eat well, drink a lot of water and sleep well, too, you are doing yourself a disservice.”
I’ve gotta say it: You have incredible legs. What workouts do you do to keep them so toned?
“I love squats, lunges, SoulCycle, and yoga to stretch and elongate my muscles. I work out at Equinox and find the classes really diverse and good for all my muscle groups. It’s important to mix up your workouts—cycle, run or yoga. Your muscles have memory and they need to be challenged, too.”
Which body products do you use on your legs? I saw you posted the One Ocean Beauty Body Boost Duo on Instagram. Is it really good?
“I love those body products. It’s a 24/7 treatment for my skin, which I love. The Bio Active Body Sculpting Marine Cream for the day and Ultra Marine Cellulite Night Cream for night are two great creams that really work by firming and hydrating the skin on my legs! And sunscreen always. I like La Roche-Posay Anthelios 30 Cooling Water Lotion Sunscreen SPF 30.”
You use a dry brush, too, right? Those can really change the way skin looks and feels.
“Yes, I love my One Ocean Body Brush. I use it all over my body in circular motions, all year long from head to toe. It’s important to exfoliate your entire body. It gives a youthful look and invigorates new cell growth. Our skin is our biggest organ and we need to take care of it daily. Just like how we watch what we put in our bodies, we need to treat our skin with care as well.”
What about your hair and those signature waves…do you get regular blowouts?
“I do get regular blowouts since I work in high-end real estate. Having a fresh blowout shows professionalism and attention to detail. Again, I refer back to my modeling days, when the whole package was important. Simple black dress, blowout and a clean face looks fresh and professional. I also love Oribe products—The Après Beach Wave and Shine Spray and Royal Blow out Heat Styling Spray—and I shampoo with Redken Extreme Length Shampoo and Conditioner. Hair God, Bradley Irion, encouraged me to not regularly wash my hair. My color lasts longer and my hair has more body. Fatima Sheikh blows my hair out twice a week. It’s important to have consistency with your hair professional—less breakage. I don’t like Dyson blowdryers: The intense heat lends itself to insane breakage.”
How is real estate treating you, and what was your experience like on Selling the Hamptons?
“I love the real estate business, as it encompasses everything I have done in the fashion and media space. I have an incredible team called the Kelly Killoren Bensimon Team with the best in sales in New York/Florida/Hamptons and with Knight Frank in Paris and London. I feel fortunate to work with Douglas Elliman. They understand the subtle nuances of ultra-high net worth clients and have a marketing team and public relations team that recognizes the importance of strong visual content and messaging. The importance of quality visuals is something I’m well-versed in; I understand the content creation assignment, and I have an authenticity from my publishing background that resonates with my clients. I understand their lifestyle and the forecasting of new trends. If you love what you do, the money will come. I’ve worked and played all my life in Paris, London, NYC, the Hamptons, Miami, Palm Beach, and Aspen. I now help my clients sell and buy in those areas. Filming Selling the Hamptons was so fun for me since I grew up going to the Hamptons and I wrote two anthologies about the Hamptons for Assouline entitled In the Spirit of the Hamptons. I also developed and constructed my own 7,000-square-foot home on Further Lane with Trunzo Builders. Working with the best architects, interior designers and developers is a dream come true. We create and sell an aspirational lifestyle. How you live is so important now.”
